People Spotlight: David Greer

Executive Director University of Tulsa Institute for Information Security

The University of Tulsa has named David Greer as the executive director for the Institute for Information Security.

Greer will be responsible for the development, implementation and supervision of iSec's mission to produce exceptional graduates and technical discoveries in the information security field.

He also will serve as a liaison between iSec and industry, government, academic partnerships and alumni.

At TU, he previously served as coordinator for the Cyber Security Education Consortium, where he comanaged a multi-million dollar National Science Foundation Advanced Technology Education grant.

He also was a continuing education coordinator at the college.

In addition, Greer served as e-learning coordinator/systems analyst, and later information security coordinator, for the CareerTech Learning Network.

There, he coordinated activities in the Cyber Security Education Consortium with accountability for the creation and support of statewide cyber security programs, along with information assurance and digital forensics curriculum development.

Greer earn his bachelor's degree at Oklahoma State University in management information services, his master's degree in computer science at TU, and is currently completing his doctorate degree.

A native of Robinson, Texas, he graduated from Owasso High School, and moved back to Tulsa in 1990.

He currently serves as an adviser for the OSU-Okmulgee Cyber Security Program, and TU's Continuing Engineering and Science Education; and is director of education for the Oklahoma chapter of the International Systems Security Association.

Greer also serves as a member of cyber advisory boards and committees for several area colleges and technology centers, and is involved in digital forensics organizations.
